Winery Notes
Château Clerc Milon is a classified Fifth Growth estate in Pauillac and part of the prestigious Baron Philippe de Rothschild portfolio, alongside Château Mouton Rothschild and Château d’Armailhac. Originally classified in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification, the estate was revitalized after its acquisition by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1970, transforming it from a neglected property into one of Pauillac’s most respected modern estates. Today the château is associated with the legacy of Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, whose passion for both wine and the performing arts helped shape the estate’s modern identity and international reputation.
One of the château’s most recognizable features is its label, which depicts a pair of jeweled dancers inspired by an 18th-century artwork from the Museum of Wine in Art at Château Mouton Rothschild. Baroness Philippine chose the theatrical image as a reflection of her lifelong love of drama and performance.
The 2021 vintage blend is composed of approximately 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Carmenère, with the latter remaining a distinctive signature of the estate.
Tasting Notes
A refined and classically styled Pauillac offering aromas of cassis, blackberry, cedar, graphite, cigar box, and subtle baking spice layered with hints of smoke and dark chocolate. The palate is elegant yet structured, combining fresh acidity with polished tannins and concentrated dark fruit. Notes of tobacco, espresso, crushed stone, and mint emerge through the long, balanced finish. The 2021 vintage emphasizes precision, freshness, and terroir-driven finesse over sheer power, giving the wine both immediate sophistication and excellent aging potential.
